The Ultimate Guide for How to Mail Properly on Blastable3 min read

Sending marketing emails can be tricky sometimes. That’s why we suggest following good email practices to ensure your engagement and open rates won’t be affected.

Similarly, some practices will affect your analytics. Keep reading to learn more about the Do’s and Don’ts when it comes to Mailing here in Blastable.

Important Note:

You can only upload a maximum of 1,000 of your best contacts on your first few mailings. This restriction will be lifted after your lists are warmed up.

Do’s

  1. Warm up your Lists. This is the practice of sending a gradually increasing number of emails from a new email account to build a positive reputation.
  2. Engage with your users. Try to have attractive content, interactive elements, links, or buttons.
  3. Regularly clean your lists. Remove all the inactive subscribers. Sending more emails to people who don’t interact with your content affects your reputation.
  4. Make sure your emails are authenticated with DKIM, SPF, and DMARC.
  5. Create Segments so you can target your emails better.
  6. Keep your email volume consistent. If you go from 100 emails one day to 100,000 the next, you will get blocked.
  7. Send your emails from a real email address. Use a custom domain.
  8. Send on behalf of a person, not a company or business name.
  9. Only use one link per email. You can use the same link 2 – 3 times, but make sure it’s the same link each time.
  10. Make sure your emails are responsive and super mobile-friendly.
  11. Make sure people specifically opt-in to hear from you. Double opt-in is even better.
  12. Use free tools like mail-tester.com senderscore.org, and multirbl.valli.org to check your emails and monitor your reputation.

Don’ts

  1. Do not look like SPAM. This can sound very general, but here we have some examples to avoid this:
    • Avoid spammy words and phrases. Ie. “free,” “earn money,”  “buy now,” “get rich quick,” etc.
    • Do not attach files to your emails.
    • Do not use free email addresses like Gmail, Hotmail, etc.
  2. Do not mail multiple times a day.
  3. Do not attach embedded images or links.
  4. Don’t start blasting people without warming up your lists. This only increases the chances your email ends up in the Spam folder.
  5. Don’t mail the same affiliate swipe copy everyone else uses. Customize it for your lists.
  6. Avoid using special characters ($, %, ! *), highlighting, and random font colors.
  7. Never purchase or scrape email lists.
  8. Avoid fancy designs. keep designs as simple as possible. Plain text works great.
  9. Stop emailing people who haven’t interacted with your emails in months.
  10. Don’t use emojis. Keep it short and simple.

Pro Tip:

Most top ESP’s like Blastable can get great deliverability and have multiple IP Sending Pools. Depending on your list engagement, spam complaints, email bounces, and some other things that make up your list quality, you’ll be assigned a sending pool.

This usually happens automatically. The higher the quality of your list is, the better-sending pool you’ll be placed into. The better IP  pool you are on, the better inboxing and deliverability you’ll get. And that means more opens, clicks, and sales.
